In a press release distributed to journalists, Professor Dauda Nalado, representing the Islamic Movement under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqub El-Zakzaky, called on the Muslim community to channel the sorrow of Ashura into a resistance against injustice.

Professor Nalado highlighted that Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, holds significant importance for Muslims, particularly the Shia, as it commemorates the tragic martyrdom of Imam Husayn ibn Ali (AS) at Karbala. This day is a reminder to stand firm for justice and oppose all forms of oppression.

In his address, Professor Nalado stated, "Ashura's Purposeful Mourning: Transforming Ashura's Sorrow into a Stand Against Injustice." He emphasized that every commemoration of Karbala should focus on the pursuit of justice and the avoidance of oppression. He further noted that the Prophet's saying, Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), “When you see someone being oppressed, help them or you will become the oppressor,” should serve as a guiding principle for all Muslims.

Professor Nalado also took the opportunity to extend condolences to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the entire Muslim community on the martyrdom of Imam Husayn. He expressed that this would bolster the community's resolve to confront injustice and uphold human rights.

In conclusion, Professor Nalado urged those observing Ashura to use this occasion to stand for justice and oppose oppression in all circumstances, particularly in Palestine and other regions suffering from tyranny worldwide.

The annual Ashura procession, typically conducted by the Shia community on the 10th of Muharram, took place in over 50 cities in Nigeria, including the city of Katsina. A report and video by a Katsina Times correspondent will be published on our website soon.
